So if I used clips found on freesound.org, whether they be full clips or just portions, or altered compilations of sounds, AND I give credit to each sound used in the youtube description, credit given in the form of the actual file name of freesound clip used, am I free to monetize on youtube? Am I going to face any problems with any freesound uploader? Am I going to face any restriction on youtube?
Youtube has approved me for monetization, on all my vids, but I am weary because if I screw up here, I could have my video removed.
So do I have rights to use freesound material without issue?
That would depend upon the license that the sounds you've used are protected by. Freesound uses 3 different licenses. Check the license section for each of the sounds you wish to use and follow the guidelines there.
Some licenses give more freedom to the person downloading, some are more restrictive and require proper attribution and permission given by the creator to use in commercial works.
What if you have been requested by the creator, in the copyright they chose, to contact them, and when you contact them and ask for permission, the creator doesn't reply? ...and the upload was back in 2005 or 2008. What if the creator passed away or something?
I have a hard time believing with thousands of uploads occurring on, let's say, a particular file, that those uploaded samples are being used with permission granted.
I don't understand why anyone would upload a sound and then restrict it.
Can anyone provide any info on that, since I personally I am on the uploading side of things, and know nothing of what motivates a person to upload and then restrict use. Anyone?

well, I upload to share. The way you want to make a nice youtube-film is now problem for me.
The serieus and active users will answer your request in a few days moostly.
If you want to be sure, use sounds of people that are active here at the moment.
I hope you put a comment and a link to your product at my sounds you used.
Make beautiful films, I will look at them.
I have uploaded 2 of your sounds, but have not used them. With the recent changes at freesound.org, for me to be able to listen to a sound I have to download it first. I no longer see on the page where I can click the "play" button, to get it to play, like I was able to do before the changes.
I would be happy to comment on the samples I downloaded from you, and if I use them on a project, I will ask for permission first...
My situation right now is doing a lot of backtracking...someone, not on this site, asked me if they could use a portion of my visual performance...NO SOUNDS that were downloaded here, were involved in the the portion they wanted to use...anyway, it got me to thinking that if I wanted proper credit, I better make sure that the credit I do give, (which I always included in filename format only plus a link to freesound.org )is properly written, which started this whole project for me to backtrack, then write up the credit correctly, which now I am finding, I actually needed "permission" on some of these sounds I used.
I typically use the sound in a promotional gig video, and NOT the videos I actually sell... and with the gig video and the video I sell, the focal point is my own performance...I am not making a much money on my performances anyway, I'm talking $5/performance...and like I said, the sound I am using, is not a part of the videos I sell, it is typically just a part of the video I use to sell performances.
first your question: I no longer see on the page where I can click the "play" button, to get it to play, like I was able to do before the changes.
Install a good brouwser eg: firefox. And be sure you have installed the latest FLASH-player.
If so, you se in every sound-picture a Key for playing. You can step trough the sound as well.
next:
I can not speak for others but, use my sounds as long as you follow my text in my front-page:

I hope others will help you
