I never knew the steps/procedures I needed to take in order to cpoyright a track. How exactly do I go about doing it? :?:

In the United States (I can't comment on other countries but they tend to be roughly similar) you implicitly are granted copyright as soon as you create a work. You can let people know this by placing a notice on the website/album cover/whatever such as:
"Copyright (C) Myself 2007"

I'd like to clarify Halleck's post above: when he says "as soon as you create a work" that it is copyrighted, I feel it needs to be clarified that as soon as you have it in some hard form. Whether it's an mp3 or a tape or a written work doesn't matter. But if you have a tune in your head and you hear it on the radio next week, well that's too bad. The trick is making sure that if you do write something catchy and someone DOES try to steal it, that you can prove you wrote it first. Not as easy as it sounds. The Poor Man's way is to put it on CD (whether a full CD Master or just you singing and playing ukelele into your computer mic) and mail it to yourself. Registered mail is usually the way to go. It's not perfect but it will do the job.

No I think Tweeterdj meant real mail, as in putting a cd with your song on it in an envelope and mailing it to yourself. I'm not sure e-mail would be viable.

Simon's right, I did mean real mail. The only reason to copyright something is to have a legal hold on it. Unfortunately, email just isn't gonna cut it.
