Hi all,
My company will be generating some new screencasts* and I'd like to pitch the idea of using freesound samples for sound effects in the screencasts (e.g. for opening jingles, click sounds, etc).
Firstly, is this an acceptable use of the licensed sounds? (The license specifically mentions commercial *web*casts being out, but the forum FAQ mentions commerical movies being ok.)
Secondly, what would the license of the derivative work be (seeing that it is now a screencast - i.e. movie - rather than a sound). Or is it up to us to decide?
Thanks!

* Screenshot-based movies of the commerical software in use. (For what its worth, the plan is for portions of the software to be released as OSS.)
I think this particular case is forbidden by the sampling+ license:
"You may not use this work to advertise for or promote anything but the work you create from it."
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/sampling+/1.0/
However, you can always contact the authors of the samples and ask them permission!

Hi bram,
Thanks for the speedy reply. I hadn't even thought it that way. The screencasts will be part of an online user manual, on the company website, rather than separate advertising/promotion per se. Does this help or is it still a no-go area?
Otherwise, as you say, we can approach individual artists for permission.
(I'm just keen to use CC licensed work in a visible way. Maybe even get the screencasts themselves licensed, not that I'm sure they have remix potential
