Hello.
I'm pretty much a novice in the sounds field at all. I signed up a long time ago, though I didn't exactly know what I was doing. Now I do, and have an idea, and a question.
I play something called muds. They are text games which use a client: a program for them to run on. This program supports sound, making it so you can add sounds to certain activities in the game. No one will ever hear this but me, it's for my own entertainment, and to ensure I don't miss certain big events in the game that could basically get me killed. With something like that, is it OK to do at all if it's just me, and if so, is it right that I've downloaded a few creative commons sounds, tempted to do this with them but kind of afraid to?
No fear
Even the most restrictive clause combinations of the Creative Commons deal with *redistributing* what you've done with the CC covered sources, while yours as described is a clear case of personal private usage, hence allowed
If at a later time you liked your sound set so much that you decided to make it available somewhere, you'd have to honor each sound's license, but until then you're free to use all the sounds you want as they are and edit/process them at will.
