Hi, I'd like to use a couple pieces of music created under the Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 rule in a video slide of my unpublished graphic novel. It will be available to view for free on youtube, but my ultimate aim is to interest filmmakers, who would ultimately pay me royalties if they use my book for a film. (Yes, I know it's a longshot...) Could anybody tell me if my use of that music would be a violation of the Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 license?
Hi johnanon,
If you want to make money in the future with your book it's not right to use Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 license.
You would have to ask the copyright holder if you could obtain different terms — which might entail you paying them a royalty out of your royalty, or maybe they’re a kind soul who would give you permission for what you want. It’s always worth asking.
