I'm not sure where to post this, I have some concerns.
Has anyone else had comments on their SoundCloud or Facebook from a Japanese Radio Station (or New York according to some of my friends) asking them to get in touch cause they like your song?
I got this generic email;

Hi ----,
Thanks for checking in. You’ve got a good thing going and I’d like to help you get to the next level.
Aside from the major record labels, there are other organizations that can help you to secure significant airplay. Lately, we’ve been receiving some of our best music from The (removed) Music Awards. This company is covering the cost to get artists not only on (removed) Tokyo, but on an extended network of stations worldwide. Therefore, you may want to consider submitting your music to them at (removed)dotcom. Just a thought.
I hope that this is helpful. Please keep me posted on your success and thanks for tuning in!
Sincerely,
Ichiro ----
Program Director

So this is a company called 'blah blah blah --- Awards' - not really awards?
It is one of those sites where you pay for the privilege of having some nameless judges listen to your song (or not). Yes there are a few of these around.
I did some research on the 'winning artists, some seemed legit, others not so.
Is this acceptable and the way to do it now? I call BS. Unfortunately I can't call scam cause this seems legal????? $$$$$ for plays..... nah.....
This sounds like one of many phishing scams circulating social media.
I get messages on Soundcloud all the time from seemingly legitimate sources, then all it takes is 1 minute of research to understand that it's a trap.
We all hate spammers and phishers, but it's just an inevitable part of the world wide web.
Yeah mate spammers suck.
I guess it's like any spam; vulnerable people might do it, no different to the scams these days where they call pretending to be the tax department targeting old people.
Unfortunately these music ones don't seem to be illegal. I relate it to the DJ days where people would pay to play sets at shows, ended up in low quality nights and lots of talented DJ's getting screwed over, leaving, not bothering anymore etc etc.
Anyway I feel better for my rant, I just hope people take care who they hand over their $ to and learn to instantly spot BS. By the amount of comments on these particular "companies" Facebook page it seems people have lots of money but no sense.
I hope no-one gets ripped off for their hard work. Peace
