I am thinking about creating a free android mobile app to let user's search/explore/upload/download sounds on freesound. Is it legal to use freesound API for creating such a mobile client?

Hi,

It is perfectly legal to use the Freesound API for that as long as you comply with the API terms of use and with the licenses of the sounds you access within the API. Check the terms of use here: http://www.freesound.org/docs/api/terms_of_use.html
