I'm new to freesound and came here in my search for public domain music, etc. I'm a journalist making multi-media videos to supplement and promote enterprise stories that will be broadcast on our website, social media feeds, etc. Is it absolutely necessary to attribute sounds I use? How do I properly attribute sounds I find on this website? If they are on this website, are they considered public domain?
Thanks for the help!
Hey Friend of the Catfish
As I understand it, you can only find licensed sounds on freesound and ONLY the "CC 0 (zero)" licensed material can be used without attribution and is equal to public domain.
Everything else has to be attributed, and this can easily be done by eg. linking to the catalog page of each sound you downloaded.
Read the faq:
http://www.freesound.org/help/faq/#licenses
and have a look at this thread:
www.freesound.org/forum/legal-help-and-attribution-questions/38292/
Note that material licensed with "CC BY-NC" can NOT be used commercially.
So to answer your last question; NO, everything on this site is NOT considered public domain,
it all depends on the individual license.
