Found a sound FX I wanna use in my game, haven't decided if I will go commercial with it (regardless of any cost for downloading it).
Now my question:
The sound seems to be under "Attribution 3.0 Unported". Clicking on the link after the words "You MUST give.." the text reveals:
IF supplied, you must provide the name of the creator and attribution parties, a copyright notice, a license notice, a disclaimer notice, and a link to the material. CC licenses prior to Version 4.0 also require you to provide the title of the material if supplied, and may have other slight differences.
Q1: How do the MUST along with the IF relate? The explanation text somehow states I need to supply an entire page in the game with info about the sound?
Q2: Is credit to the creator + a notice where I found the FX sufficient? Is a link to the licence really needed, in my app there is no way to click it anyway.
Sorry to be a bit dismissive but I only want a good "Explosion" in my game and will give the creator credit, but all the other stuff... :/
Hi there.
The "if supplied..." bit is really saying "if it's available, ..."
For the absolute bare minimum attribution with sounds which are before CCBY 4.0, you need to state the following:
• Name/alias supplied by the author
• Title of the audio at the original source
• Link to the original audio from the place it was sourced from
Better attribution would also include:
• Details about the CC license
• A disclaimer note
It's good practice even for 4.0+ to give the original title.
