Me and a buddy of mine recently started a podcast and are considering using some quick sfx to be sprinkled throughout the show. We're not making any money off of this, its more of a hobby for now. If we do reach a point where we can profit, will i have to stop using certain sfx? Or will i have to address the publisher directly?
It depends on what CC license is attached to the sound you're downloading.
CC Zero sounds you can use and not worry about crediting or how/where using them.
CCBY Attribution sounds you can use commercially as long as you credit the authors properly.
Avoid CCBY (non commercial) licenses if you're unsure if the content is going to be monetised in the future.
Please refer to the second post in this thread for more comprehensive (but user friendly) information:

Hope this helps
