Take this sound for example:
http://www.freesound.org/people/FlyingPoop123/sounds/150335/
The creator has it licensed under a Creative Commons 0 license which means it has no copyright at all. He then states he used samples to create it.
How do I know if those samples are copyrighted?
The same goes for sounds with music, quotes etc.
Would it be my problem if the person who uploaded them said they were royalty free then somebody went after me?
If you're ever in doubt about legal nature of a sound, then deciding to simply not to use the sound is ALWAYS the safest option.
That being said listening to the file in question, most of it sounds like they are audio from the NASA archives which are in the public domain.
Keep in mind I am NOT a lawyer so don't take this as legal advice, just advice in general from my own experience.
