Hello! SoI'm creating a video and want some bird sounds.
If I use one that says "attribution" and click the link, it says I must do this:
Under the following terms:
Attribution — You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
So--
1."Give appropriate credit" must mean the user name of the person who posted the sound, correct?
2. "Provide a link to the license"...means what? Where is that link? What license?
3. Indicate if changes were made..." which means, I assume, if I add reverb--but what if I just loop or trim the beginning/ending?
4. Where does all this info go? If it's a YouTube video, does it go in the video itself (like ending credits) or in the YouTube video description?
I saw elsewhere that we should also list the title of the piece and the URL-does that mean the actual freesound URL link?
Thanks!
-Kris
Hey there
Here is a super simple guide for attributing Creative Commons material...
https://creativecommons.org/use-remix/attribution/
1. Yes, title of the material and the author (in the case of Freesound it's the username)
2. Don't worry about the link to the license, you can just state which license it is e.g. 'CCBY 3.0'
3. You only need to indicate changes if you're re-distributing the sound as it is, rather than part of a composition.
4. You can choose where to put the credits that you prefer. Ending credits in the video, video description, or a link in the description directing people to a publicly available resource like a page on your website if you have one.
5. yes, ideally you'd include a link to where you originally obtained the material. The freesound URL; remember you can get the short URL from the sounds description page or just change the URL e.g...
https://freesound.org/people/krnash/sounds/389793/ -> https://freesound.org/s/389793/
I hope this helps
