Hello there!
Sorry I struggle to understand your question.
Here's what I understand, correct me if I'm wrong :
You have found a vocal take with CC4.0-BY licensing. You would like to use it in a project and would like to know if it's a Remix and or Edit. You would also like to know how to appropriately credit the author of the sound.
Here's the official info in that regard : https://creativecommons.org/faq/#attribution
https://wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/Recommended_practices_for_attribution#This_is_a_great_attribution
In summary though, when reasonably applicable, you must credit the author, source, licensing, and title. "TASL" (Title, Author, Source, Licensing). And indicate if any modifications were done (not sure if you need to be specific about the modification, or just saying it has been modified).
For example of great attribution :
This work includes :
Background audio : "Capitalism's factory" by xXxBigSanta3000. Available for use under the CC BY 4.0 license, at -link to where you found the audio-.
In a movie, you'd be expected to include that in an ending title, and description. In music it's not considered "reasonably applicable" to credit inside the music's audio, however metadata and description would apply. In terms of a podcast it's a greyline, maybe at the end of it there would be a segment of "we would like to thank XYZ" but treating it like music is probably fine.
Hope this helps, have a nice day
we have a documentary video in which the hero tells a story to the tune, it turns out the melody + voice - is it possible to edit the melody? and then how to indicate it? or the offset of two melodies from CC4.0-BY . It turns out that we should "also indicate if you have modified the work", but how to indicate this?
Sorry I still struggle to understand. Here are some questions I see :
Can I edit a melody?
How to indicate edits/modification of the work?
Can I edit a melody?
With CC-4.0-BY yes! That license only requires you to attribute the author of a work you're using. However you use that or re-mix it is up to you and free reign. (Unless it is CC-BY-ND (NoDerivatives))
How to edit a melody though, that's a separate question outside of licensing. I will say editing audio seamlessly is hard though! Kind of up to you to figure out how to edit the melody.
How to indicate edits/modification of the work?
Following the suggested attribution I mentioned, include somewhere a comment about how you used the source material (tune in this case) and what modifications you did.
Example "The melody was re-made by slicing each notes in a new order" or "We used a autotune software to re-pitch the melody" or other.... Perhaps it could be simpler by just "edits include re-mixing the melody".
In the case of a tune/melody (orignal work), with someone singing over it (your modification/additional work), maybe you should include a note of "Edits include the addition of vocals and lyrics."
In short, yes you can edit the melody. If you edit you should include a comment in the attribution about modifications you did to the work.
Thank you for taking the time and energy to ask all these questions, and wanting to correctly follow the Creative Commons licensing!
