Hi, I'm new in the freesound project so I don't really understand the full legal stuff so please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm working on an animation for a contest on my University (the winner animation will be exhibited in various ocations mantioning me as the author) and what I really need is sound effects so: I download them from freesound giving credit to the authors at the end and then give my finished animation to the contest, as far as I know there shouldn't be any legal problem in there (again, please correct me if I'm wrong here)
All right, assuming that there is no problem there (again I insist, plese tell me if I can do that!) let's move forward to my question/problem: The animation should be of less than 2 minutes and I'm using a bunch of sounds from this and other webpage (http://www.incompetech.com), the thing is taht I'm using a bunch of little sound from this website such as "Stomp That.wav" from "JCambs1990" and "pigeon wings.aif" from "tigersound", so posting all the full credits (That is "name of the sound" by name of the author) really will be long to mention, and I don't really have a lot of duration of the credits as I need the most for the animation itself. So should I really need to put the specific name of every little sound on the credits? Can't I just put the name of the authors of the sounds and the website (http://www.freesound.org)? Is the name of the sound truly that necessary? :?
Thanks for your help on this topic, I'm really confused.
According to the license under which all of the sounds here are released (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/sampling+/1.0/)
You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor
That means you have to ask every author how they would like to be credited (the way I do it is I have a standard form and I ask each author if it's ok). I would, for this project, fill the page with fine print about all the authors and their sounds and all that goodness for a short period of time - as long as it's up there, you're crediting them. I would leave it up for at least a second, but I'm not a lawyer so I wouldn't know exactly how long it should be.
Hope this helps,

No, I don't think so actually. If they didn't specify, you can choose how to do attribution. Or maybe it means how they want to be credited, username or real name or company name.
One of the great things of Creative Commons licenses is that you don't need to contact the authors anymore.
Well, that's in the human-readable summary, but I did not read about it in the "official" legal code at http://creativecommons.org/licenses/sampling+/1.0/legalcode
Such credit may be implemented in any reasonable manner; provided, however, that in the case of a Derivative Work or Collective Work, at a minimum such credit will appear where any other comparable authorship credit appears and in a manner at least as prominent as such other comparable authorship credit.
Otherwise you could get weird results. What if you use sounds in a film and one creator wants full name and username and url and sound name, you'd get a pretty long credits list that way.

I see how it's confusing in the license, I've always thought it was a weird thing, most people don't specify how they want to be credited, so it's strange to have that as a condition.

I've had a lot of people use pictures from my flickr page, also Creative Commons, and only 2 of them have emailed to ask permission. Which is nice, then I can check out the how they used them afterward. Otherwise I have to check my stats and see where they are linked to. They are good about giving credit to linked photos, I haven't seen any that did not give credit, or a link back to the original flickr photo.
