Hello everyone,

I am currently helping a secondary school, where I work, to set up a music production suite with Sony Acid Pro and a small studio running Cubase. However, there is a shortage of interesting and creative samples for the students to get started with. So, I and the music teacher would like to take some sample packs off freesound and put them on the school network for students to access and use in their productions. However, we are very weary of copyright laws and must make sure we are not breaking or bending any rules.
Is this feasible without infringing on any copyright boundaries?
It is a pain because we can't even buy a sample pack and put it on the network (which 20 computers with Acid have access to) for students to access because, legally, we can only use one paid-for sample pack on one computer >.<
Any advice? I would love for the students to have access to a larger digital repertoire of samples.

So, if I put a copy of the license on the network and explain to the students what it is (which would be a nice little lesson on digital copyright), then I am covered?

basically it has to be clear who made the files you put up there. You could for example make an internal network page with a lot of sample packs, and each pack would have an additional link to the original freesoud page. Just an example!

of course if the kids make something with these files and then share that work of art with the world, they ALSO need to attribute the files they have used, just like you would be doing!

do that, and you should be covered.

Sounds practical enough. I am going to help with a Computer Music club this lunch so I will go through it with the music department so we can choose a few packs to try it out om.

I was also thinking last night, and I thought it would be nice to go through what freesound is all about in more depth with the students. I think they would benefit from making their own accounts and sharing their own creations with the community.
