It’s possible that the owner of the bot itself stopped the process for some reason. Maybe the bot has downloaded enough?
Hi everyone,
I've been following the discussion about the download bots. I understand the concerns that this can raise, but these bots are not doing something which is not allowed. I agree that such activity can generate confusion in the website and biases statistics, and it is true that mass download should be done using other tools we provide (the API, which gives us a bit more control) and not through bots. So yeah, I would ideally not see these things happening. But we believe that the time it would require on our side to deal with download bots would be better spent on other fronts. I have contacted that user in particular though.
I hope you understand our position and do not find this too disappointing. If this becomes a bigger issue, we will look at it again and see if it is worth to implement some measures.
Thanks!
Thank you for your reply, Frederick. Could you enlighten us about the details of your communication with the owner of that account? I think everyone would be interested to know.
Thank you for your reply, Frederick.
We made a storm in a glass of water. 😉 Hope other user use the freesound-API 😊
Hello,
Even though it's authorised (but should be done though the API). Should we still report back download bots just to keep track of how many/where they are?
Hello, I saw this thread and some time later I found this profile - https://freesound.org/people/ambujm22/ - which has over a million sounds downloaded which is, as far as I'm aware, is one of the biggest amounts of sounds downloaded on a single account, almost 10 times as many as some of the others, and it was only made just over 2 weeks ago. I don't want to bother anyone with spamming bot profiles but since it has downloaded so many I wanted to bring it to the attention of the people discussing the issue on this thread. Please tell me if you dont want me to do this though as i appreciate that you are all busy and dont want random people telling you about stuff
Also, does anyone know if there is any pattern to when the bots stop downloading sounds? This one appears to have stopped at 1.1 million sounds and I've gone through some other bot profiles and theyve all just stopped at seemingly random amounts of sounds. I don't know if this could be helpful for anyone but hope it is
Worth noting, to this day there's only 673,258 sounds on freesound.org.
So at 1,164,129 downloads it nearly downloaded each sounds twice.
In 18 days.
Impressive!
