Can someone please explain what it means when a sample is "geotagged?" thanks.
Hi fatchancestudio
When a recording is made at a specific location and it is GEOTAGGED freesound makes a link to a page with an embedded google map showing the location and links to other geotagged samples recorded in the same area. The best way to see how it works is to search freesound for a geotagged file and click the link on the sample view page.
For example, this http://www.freesound.org/samplesViewSingle.php?id=71829 is one of my recordings with a geotag. If you open the link at the bottom of the information box and click "This sample has been geotagged" you will be taken to the map. My sample is the upper-right little red dot in a group of three at the very centre of the map. Clicking the little red dots shows the info and a button to zoom all the way in.
Geotagging your own recordings is really easy - click the "geotag this sample" button on your view-sample page and simply pan and zoom the map to your location and the coordinates are worked out for you. It's important that you only geotag recordings where the location information is relevant i.e. a bird in a tree in London in January yes, a budgie in a cage in your grannies living room, err.... perhaps not. If everybody geotagged everything it would become a useless cloggied-up feature - no good for finding particular relevant sounds.
Hope this helps,
Wibby.
Well, that made a lot of sense - thanks. I kind of figured that's what it might be and if everyone did it I guess it would get a little cluttered. It's a nice thing to see but if someone writes out the location that works just as well, I suppose. Thanks for the reply!
All the best,

Hello! I have a questions too.
I'm recorded a huge collection of different sounds and now I want to geotag it. Is there any separate software for Windows, that geotag audio files? Maybe this software adds metadata to files or something else?
Or geotagging implemented by this site engine?
