My old cat snores like a chain saw. I figured it would be easy recording her. Silly me!! She was sleeping on a chair in front of a, what I thought was a quite, computer. I set up my shotgun mic pointing right at her. First thing I got was the cockatiels chirping away chirping away from the other side of the house then the computer fan and finely the old moggy faintly snoring in the back ground. This is going to be harder than I thought.
Solution: Let the cat eat all the cockatiels, after the feast it will fall asleep and snore without birdsong in the background
Alternatively get a less sensitive mic closer to the cat, if the cat is asleep you could virtually contact mic it, stethoscope-style ...

Or an electret capsule microphone in a plastic funnel placed close to the cat may help reduce the background sounds.
Thanks for reply.
problem I have 16 Cockatiels I don't think my wife would like me to let the cat have a fresh bird dinner.
Did I mention the 6 parakeets and 9 chickens that help as well.
I like the less sensitive mic idea and the electric mic idea.
I will wait to night when the birds are asleep as well. Since the old cat sleeps and snores a lot should not be so hard.
One thing I have learned since I started recording is just what a nosy environment we live in.
