Hi there - first post - very interested to get started adding to the project.
My question is simple - but I fear there may be many answers?!
I want to buy a recording device (must be portable / sound quality is at the moment a secondary) relatively cheap (say £100 for everything incl a mic) from ebay. I am completely new to MD and to field recording / transfer to PC / editing etc (although not entirely stupid and have a good mixing desk on my hi-fi setup already!).
So, does anyone have any tips on the best entry level equipment. I have spotted plenty of older Sony and Sharp MD recorders (MZ-N10 etc) on ebay - will they fit my needs for now?
Cheers - Polko

Not so many answers, I guess, since your budget is a bit tight. Yes, at 100 pounds you can get a second-hand MD at eBay (NZ10 is fine; only drawback to my eyes is that files need to be transferred to a computer in real-time) or an iRiver (direct upload via USB). In either case you need to add an external mic...Wait, iRivers do often include one. Anyway, lapel mics are quite affordable, there should no be no problem even on a tight budget. Hope this helps.

Welcome polko,
I would thoroughly recommend the Sony MZ-N10 - I have bought two off ebay for around £50 each. Make sure you get all the accessories like external battery case etc.
The mic I use, ECM-MS907, was £80 new, so that might blow your buget.
I've just been looking at this shop on ebay: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Microphonics - might be OK - some miniature and binaural mics there.
