Hi all,
I am in the market to maybe buy the M-Audio 24/96 recorder but I am not crazy about the little mic that comes with the unit. Does anyone know what quality options there are out there in terms of condenser mics. I believe the unit can only produce phantom power around 30V. Thanks, Tyler
im eyeballing the MicroTrack myself. how much are you trying to spend on a mic?
If the onboard phantom power is a problem you could go with a self powered condenser. I have the AKG c1000s and i take it with me everywhere my minidisc player goes. of course this requires an XLR to 1/8" cable. I found a 3 footer at Guitar Center cheap.
I beleive M-Audio is offering a package deal where for about $80 more you get a stereo mic, headphones, and a carrying case.
Hi,
I didn't know you can also get external phantom power....that's interesting. It would be my first unit ever and want to get something that is pretty good yet ultra portable. Do you know how the M-Audio rates against the Samson Zoom H4? The thing I like about the H4 is that the stereo mics are built in and it also comes with XLR inputs while the M-Audio does not. Best, Tyler
Hi there,
looks like it all depends on the kind of sound you're interested in. After checking Neal Ewers reviews of the H4 at http://www.blindcooltech.com I think it is the best to record voices at a close range. On the other hand, tapers complain that it is less good at high SPLs, particularly as regards low frequencies (i.e., live music)
cheers
