Ok, I did'nt make it with any sound here, but still, I'd like to know what you think about my sound of guillotine :

I made it with one kitchen... Oups, bad English ! The thing made of wood that you use to cut food without cutting your table mat, the sound of a little box with a thing that slides to close it, the sound of a hammer hiting, well, another hammer, and a big hit on my desk.
I simply thought that this sound was : wood sliding, a mettalic sound, and a big boom (not mentionning the head falling into a basket).
Any idea to improve this sound ? I have to say, after an hour working on it, my ears are no longer objective...
Thanks in advance !
Sounds pretty awesome to me! Right on. (Maybe a bit louder on the actual slicing... a watermelon being cut perhaps? (Harri's house of horror pack has some good stuff if you don't want to record your own.)
Well I thought about it, with a pumkin, but it didn't work really well. The cut sounded too "present", and it changed my guillotine into a vegetable cutter...
I think that the sound you mean might be the one made by the blade when it passes in between the two boards. The little box with the slide thing is too little. Maybe a drawer ? Does anybody has a sound of a good drawer ?
Edit : hey, I just realized that for the first time, one of my sounds (heart beat.ogg) is on the most popular downloads of the week list ! My heart is gratefull...
Good one! Maybe you could improve the scale of the sounds. The real thing is rather large and I suspect the sound of it is large as well and less defined. I would consider:
- a click before the blade falls, the trigger (a rope pulled, then metal on metal)
- a larger blade, larger steel
- one big thud in the basket
- some 'wet' noises - to emphasize the bloody nature of the process
I would experiment with a subtle cutting sound by blowing wind between lips or teeth, a very short and high pitched sound. It's just a hint of cutting flesh, bearly audible. The mind of the listener will fill it in!
One suggestion: pitch shift the whole sample down. Experiment with how much (1 semitone, 3 semitones, etc.) That will slow the sound down and deepen it (ie: make it "bigger"
Ok, so, what do you think about that ?

I just added an impulse reverb (I just discovered these, and it's awesome !), changed the wooden hit sound, and slowed (sp ?) down the blade...
You're samples are brilliantacular! I don't beleive your an amatuer! You got professional qualities, great sampleez!
I don't have any suggestions, other than, keep up the good work!
Thank you ! It's always good to hear.
I have to say it's a lot better since I discovered the button -20dB for the low frequencies on my Tascam... ops:
