i don't know if this will interest anyone but I've started a project!
My original aim was to take a broken midi keyboard and transform it into something that would accept drum style midi triggers. But i did a bit of research on the internet and found someone who had taken apart one of the same keyboards (an Evolution MK-149) and built a synth. i got in contact and asked him for some pointers as i have never done anything like this before.
But alas he explained a complication, about integrating the pads which accept velocity signals in a different way. So my aim is now to make just a 1 or 2 octave keyboard that i can use to trigger samples or play a melody.
if you have any tips or pointers for me they'd be more then welcome. I'm keeping an online diary of my progress and that can be found here:

just to let you know I've just had a big update. lots of work completed today!
I really like following this endeavour. Actually, I own an old Yamaha keyboard that I don't use these days and since reading your experiment I'm considering modding my own keyboard as well.
But first I've got to find some spare time... :?
haha, i'm glad someone is taking an interest.....and spare time? pffft, go for it!
