Here's an easy way to loop a background noise for, say, a video game.
Say I have a sample of traffic noises that I want to loop, but there is no clear splicing point that I can see....
1) Open the sample in Audacity, and crop off the beginning and end if necessary, so you have a cleean block of noise.
2) Select a bit at the beginning, and do a 'fade in'
3) Select a roughly equal portion at the end and do a 'fade out'
4) do CTRL+C to copy the bit you just faded out ( that you still have selected ), then delete that bit.
5) add a new track
6) do CTRL+V to paste the bit you just copied to the very beginning of that track
7) select both tracks and choose from the project pull down menu: " quick mix "
Hold down the shift key and hit the play button to see how your loop turned out.
Ah yes, a classic. It's too bad that it takes seven steps in audacity and is destrcutive. I remember having to do this with audacity to make some music loops for a game.
Not fun, but it works.
