I'm looking for portable hardware solutions for multitrack/overdub recording with spdif optical input included. Multitrack recorder allows to listen and virtually manipulate (pan, gain - friendly knobs) tracks recorded earlier while recording current one. And such device is silent in contrary to laptops, which are larger and heavier anyway. I'd like to have a possibility to connect input device like sony pcm-d50 via optical spdif (electric separation, digital 1:1 signal) for example.
Any ideas?
Tascam dp-008 looks nice, but I could not found anything about spdif.
I have not found anything with optical input, but I think this one can be interesting portable multitracker (to be mor eprecise - sketchpad for sound ideas): Boss Micro BR-80
According to what I understood from manual: it has 8 paralel tracks (plus 8 virtual tracks per each), each track has independent settings (gain, pan, etc.), plus some effects (not so important for me). On board mics. I'm curious about the quality of them and of build-in pre-amps.
I'm going to record in the field things like this:

But this time - with others (above is one-man multitrack, first recorded with Zoom H2, second - with Sony PCM-D50).
Everyone on the internet seems to praise this little device, I'm curious if anyone had real experience with it.
