When I click the volume icon on my status bar, the slider doesn't come up! When I double click the volume icon, I see this:

These are in my control panel=sounds and audio devices properties:

if not just say IT!!!
That happened to me once or twice. Try rebooting, worked for me.
IT!!!
Post Scriptum: reboot!? I haven't rebooted my computer for months! (just kidding!)
Butt, seriously, butt... I will erbott ot ees vvhat hpapnes...
Tada! Volume control works!
however, i must note that when you restart your computer, you do not magically obtain a sound card
Sometimes when I am recroding tracks and start clicking faster than my PC can keep up with it crashes with some nasty null void error conflicting file access error or something and I have no soundcard until I reboot so I figured it might work, did you not have a soundcard already? Or have I just not learned to speak Flowerese yet?
Don't feel blue, I'm still not fluent in HardPCM-ish.
I don't think I ever really had a sound card anyways. PCM has already figured that out for me. We found that strange, because the computer's brand new.
Had the same once, only thing that worked format and reinstall windows.
