The new ambisonic mic from Core-sound is now in production!
Check it out here: http://www.core-sound.com/TetraMic/1.php
Not likely in realtime, but once recorded you can decide what format you want to mix it down two. Anything from 2-track to 10.1 would be possible at that point. It comes with the software that allows just about any combination to be used. Of course you could listen to the 4 channels of Raw output, but the full surround effect would not be defined at that point.
If ever my studio 'Goes surround', I'm buying one of these bastards in a second.
I meant can I listen to recordings made by this mic? Can I hear some recordings before I buy? Can I hear it?
Anyway, if I was going to buy this mic I'd use it for good stereo recordings.
Sorry, I wasn't quite following you. I don't know of recordings with exactly this mic. Core-sounds will hopefully have some samples up on the site soon.
Here are a few links which in-turn link to some stereo mixdowns of Ambisonic material.

(Look through the above link first because it has the most useful information of the technique itself.)
Here is another site devoted to the format and has samples as well.

As mentioned, the format has much potential for stereo, but its' major focus is on multi-dimensional sound. (Left and Right + Up and Down placement possibilities or pure surround)
so what mic would you suggest for stereo recording? i know nothing about mics, but it'd be great to buy 1 awesome stereo mic than 2 mono. less mics to carry around. Or is two mono mics always better?
wow thats a sick mic.
