does anybody know of a Mac OSX compatible voice changer program that is free that I can use to say make a persons voice sound different (eg metallic, doglike, fiery, etc.) i tried a vocoder and i have one but that doesn't really give me the result that i was hoping for
your best bet is probably to find an audio editor (like Audacity) or DAW (like kristal) that is able to host VST plugins. There are lots of plugins that can really mess up a sound, so you might have some luck there.
EDIT: whoops, kristal is not mac compatible. sorry about that... ops:

You can buy a kit and build one from there and replace the mic and speaker with an In and an Out. makes a cool project, but another bet is just to use assortments of VST's such, they will mess up voices.
where can i find VST plugins for Audacity, and what does VST stand for???
Sorry Audacity does not support VST's, a freeware (shareware program that does) is MAD Tracker, A VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology, applications meant to simulate analog effects delays and compressors and blah blah blah, also included are pitch benders and diff sorts of that type, FL Studio is good for VST management. What you probably want are pitch changer VST's I think AudioMastermind has a Sh*t load of vst's that are usuallyfree to search. Try it.
You need to use AU plugins on the mac. Here is a list of some free ones...

Audacity does not support VST's
Sorry dude, that's not correct. You simply need to add the VST enabler.
Or... you could record your voice now and upload it and by the time it is moderated you will be elderly and the voice will sound younger. Seriously though, go here and search for mac hosts and vst's, select free also!

Or go buy a PC and check out the larger variety of compatible software out there for free at:

Here are some mac freeware programs:

If you want a quick voice recorder+changer for the mac, try Voice Candy. It's very easy to use, but it's quite limited (only a few effects to choose from) and low quality, so audacity/vst stuff will be better if you want to get serious with it.
Disclaimer: Audacity VST support is limited so many VST effects (mostly ones with fancy interfaces) don't work as expected, especially if they are intended for PC's. You might have more luck if you play with apple's audio unit filters and their AU Lab program, although I haven't used either much so I can't vouch for them.
