I'm Looking for a hand held digital audio recording device <$100

For Christmas present to myself.

Just something i could pick up at wall mart or something?

Just want it to get decent recordings of water dripping, doors creaking, ect.

Can someone give me a suggestion?

I don't want it to record to tape... but to .wav or similar?

hmm, that's a prety TIGHT budget
I think perhaps the easiest would be to get a second hand minidisc recorder and a cheap microphone!
not perfect, but I think you'd be able to squeeze it out of the $100!

Why not a cheap digital voice recorder that records to flash?

Yup, the microphones on those things are horrible, and they only record in VERY low bitrates (so they can say: "200 HOURS OF RECORDING!!!".

Can someone recommend mkoenig a dirt cheam mic that's not too bad?

If you want it simple just search for 'lapel microphone' on eBay and get one. Plenty of them very cheap.
