i use steinberg cubase sx 3, reason 3, fl studio and loads of vsti plug-ins
check some of my stuff here:
audiomulch for sound mangling
Samplitude for Sequencing/Mastering
plugins
Trumpet, jews harp, Guitar, stuff
er, fruityloops and wavelab ...everybody mixes vst-plugs moreover and my own ones for sample database...cu
tro
ps: ware on hard not far worth mentioning ...
Most of the stuff I use in my meager homestudio is listed below. I've used a friends Ableton Live and that thing is the Bombdiggity...er I mean...The audiophonic capabilities of Ableton Live are complex yet efficient and the Graphical User Interface is stylish yet uncluttered (takes off snooty monacle and top hat). Logic is my mainstay...can do just about anything.
HammerHead Drum Machine ROCKS! Used it for 4 years and in a lot of my music -- I've yet to run out of ways to make use of it.
I use, Cort X-6 electric guitar, Digitech RPx400 guitar proccessor, AMD Athlon 2400+ 512MB RAM computer. Debian testing/unstable mix. Mostly CheeseTracker0.9.9-suva4 (my own patch series), Rosegarden, ZynAddSubFx, fluidsynth, jack, audacity, rezound, ecasound + various different software pieces.
Alesis QS6 with PCMCIA card and Soundbridge software. Use it as a sampler sometimes but mostly for internal sounds and to control software samplers and synths listed below.
PC running Voyetra Record Producer, Mellosoftron, VAZ, Synthedit, All the AnalogX stuff, Subsynth, Adsyn, Melody Assistant, CoolEdit96, Sampled, Audacity, Granulab, Drumsynth, Mousing and Free Leon's Simple Audio Mastering Program.
Yamaha acoustic guitar, Peavey Dynbass (rare kahler tremolo stock) with Zoom 607, Rogue ST4 electric with Zoomplayer 3000. Maybe someday a real strat?
Cheap Radio Shack dynamic mic. Cheap Radio Shack clip on condenser mic. To be replaced in the next month or so (hopefully) with a Behringer B1 and preamp. Recently started running direct to PC and stopped running everything though a Radio Shack mixer because it was so damn noisy. If you're wondering why on earth anyone would buy from Radio Shack? I used to have a Radio Shack credit card and was impatient and foolish.
And my latest addition- a green plastic Kazoo. Will upload a sample pack soon!
I use Cubase VST 5, Audiomulch, Sound Forge, Absynth 2 for software, running on a very old (well only 4 and half years old anyway) PC
Fender Electro/acoustic guitar
Some spanish acoustic guitar I can't remember the manufacturer
Yamaya midi keyboard
Tablas, drums, ethnic rattles other wooden and electric percussion. Clarinet, trumpet, Piano.
And any interesting household sounds I can get my hands on.
Am looking to move into using more field recordings when I have the mony to buy Minidisk recorder and mics.

New split CD with Vegetative state soon to be completed.
Well that depends...
At home, I either use my minidisc and sony stereo mic to record, or I'll just run a mic directly into the port on the side of my laptop... once it's on my computer I use Krystal (meh, it was free and serves my purposes pretty well)
At band practice, I'll use my MD and stereo mic exclusively...
Other than that, most of the stuff I record with just involves a fender strat, fender jazz bass, washburn paul stanley sig model, a yamaha classical guitar, and an omarshmidt mandolin, running through either my fender super 60 head and traynor 2x10 cab, or my Yorkville 100w bass amp... that's it really... pretty simple setup
What about monitors? Im mixing on crappy computer speakers at the moment with a crappy sound card! That MUST change.
As for gear well, being a bassist i have a thing called G.A.S ya know.... Gear Acquisition Syndrome??? I use a couple basses and well when it comes to software, Cakewalk with Wavelab seems to work for me just nicely.
Damien
My primary instrument is the kitchen sink.
Besides that, I have an EX-5 and a Nord Lead I love, a large investment in legit licensed softsynths, bass guitar, electric guitar, tenor saxophone, vocals, melodica, percussion ...
I used to program a lot of drums using a beat slicer and fruity loops (e.g. this took a 4/4 pattern and made all sorts of odd meters) but I've been toying with BFD lately and it's been blowing my mind.
Plus I jam with a v-drummer on some weekends ...
I've been cakewalk since it was purely midi and have kinda just played the upgrade game. I'm stuck at sonar 3 presently ... won't get 5 until I build a new computer.
^ Gear Acquisition Syndrome is contagious and there is no known cure ... ;--]
My guitarist uses about 18 guitars, most notably a Les Paul, a customized Yamaha with about twice the amount of stuff most guitars should have on it, and some brand of twelve string he's not yet revealed to me.
I, however use the world's oldest, and cheapest keyboard... some kind of kawai from the eighties that can't emulate the sound of anything, even a piano. I play a little line on it and then stick it in Acid Music studio with the intention of distorting it until it actually sounds good.
For mixing I use Acid also. I'm quite adept at drum tech and stuff... making loops sound notsolooped.
cool edit [for recording and sound editing] and acid pro [for mixing all up]
my instruments are: ibanez guitar-rg270 / marshall amp / roland keyboard / flute / clarinet / various percussion / objects...
i really love to produce electronic music and concrete music based on field recording and sounds manipulation and to raw improvise in group.
you can find an entire recording at this link on archive.org: http://www.archive.org/details/rattatuju
let me know!
