Hi,
I'm looking for a good freeware that would allow me to mix couple samples, control volume, turn on/off samples during the recording process.
Do you have any hints for me?

Audacity sounds like what you need.

It's super basic but works out really nicely for what I use it for which is stereo mix recording. It also has some effects and mastering tools in there that come in handy.
