hi everybody. first of all, thanks to you all who created this superb site and who contributed to it. i'm an amateur and i'm interested in making music at home. i've been using leaf drums software to create loops from samples. i think it's a little insufficient but i'm not aware if there's a better alternative. i would like to adjust every hit's volume separately and add some fx (reverb, eq, etc.). and i want it to be a sort of advanced one. do you have any suggestion which software to use for making drum loops? a freeware would be awesome but i'd like to try a demo either.
I use flstudio producer edition. I also use a lot of free stuff. but mainly i stick to fl because its worth my time. give it a shot. the demo won't let you save anything and that really sucks but you can find a cracked version on most bit torrent type places.
but i'd suggest paying for at least the cheapest version of flstudio which is something like a 99 dollars.
just the interface alone is worth that. you won't get any vst plugins with that but you can always add your own (again millions of them on line for free).
If you only want a drum sequencer, and nothing else, the best way to go is Acoustica Beatcraft. It comes with a ton of samples, and the possibility to use your own, supports VST effects and is quite flexible. The demo is the full program but lasts 7 days, and it only costs like 30$. You can also find an activation key online.
If you want a full-fledged DAW, there's also Propellerhead Reason that's very good,. It has, imho, better sound quality than Fruity Loops (I'm not starting a fight here), although it lacks VST support, wihich might turn you down.
I don't think your starting a fight simon but I will say that i don't agree about reason soudning better. i've used that since day one (and i still have a pc version of logic BEFORE it went mac)...i think reason sounds kinda dated.
anyhoo..we won't start a debate. ooooooooor will we???? hmmmmm
Maybe not better sound quality, but most of the songs I hear made with FLStudio have poor EQing, no low-end while the songs I hear made with Reason have that booming bass and all and all...But that may be due to the Mastering Suite that comes with Reason, which provide a good EQ right from the start. And I'm not debating or anything.
talking about non-free sw, what do you think of Ableton Live?
(I'm zero about tech features)
thanks! grazie!
Hi,
what about trying some open-source software ?
Hydrogen - Advanced Drum Machine and
Ardour - Digital Audio Workstation (or its windows equivalent: Traverso )
With those two you have yourself a free setup that is comparable to the some of the comercial tools out there. You could also try Ubuntu Studio that comes with lots of other powerfull tools (not only musical ones), and with a fully configured JACK plugin for your 0-latency projects
hi.
thank you for your helpful replies. the software programs you've mentioned are really good. i've installed fl studio, and it's great. i don't have %100 control over it, i'm a little confused but it's still great. hydrogen is also good and easier than fl studio. but i couldn't find how to assign tempo for each pattern and i don't know how to apply effects like reverb either. i couldn't find the time to try cubase battery. and, to be honest, i'm in a little hesitated of trying it. i remember when i looked to the cubase gui as they were using it in a studio. wow it was really frightening.
and now i'm downloading ubuntu studio to try. it looks interesting and promising. thanks you all!
