This past week I went on a kayak camping trip with my family in Vermont. While I was paddling towards our camping site, a loon popped up in the water about 20 feet away from me. Unfortunately, I had left by bulky portable recording setup at home. It was very quiet on the lake, so if I had brought it I could have got some very nice recordings...
Anyway, I decided that I want to buy a very portable recording system (probably Minidisc) that I can easily bring anywhere. Never having used Minidiscs before, I have a couple questions:
1. Are Minidiscs re-recordable? At first I thought that they were CD related (like MiniCD) but I guess that they're more like magnetic media types.
2. Has anybody ever used the MiniDisc recorder or stereo microphone in this package?
Check out the new hiMD recorders. They can even do non-compressed PCM sound. And transfer files with usb. Also they have larger capacity drives.
MD's are re-recordable. The main problem i have with MD's is that they are highly unreliable in my experience. For Example, if you've been recording for a long time and the battery runs out, you lose verything because the data needs to be saved and the TOC needs to be edited and you end up with a corrupt disc.
Hello - Thank you for these Post. Help a lot.
Kind regards - Nils Heitmann

I find the Sharp MD-DR470H minidisc recorder okay, its easy to edit the tracks using it and the quality of sound and make are great.
