when i record im getting this hi pitched ringing type of hiss . obviously i hear it more when i have the speakers full blast. but i dont think i should have it at all right?
i use a 4 track recorder as a mixer and even if i shut that off completely and just record nothing, i get the ring.
i searched on google to see some similar topics on other forums. one of them said it was the sound card.
like i said ,for trouble shooting purposes, it does it with out the mixer even on. just recording nothing.
anyone have any suggestions?
thanks in advance
Hello armofinfant, what soundcard are you using? have you checked all your cables are ok? Does the noise occur when you play a cd out from the computer as well? I'm sure it can be sorted out.
Cheers.
i think this is the name of the soundcard...
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
sound right to you?
it came with my pc.
I don't know how to fix this hiss, but audacity can do some noise reduction if you need it to. Try recording 10 seconds of hiss, the select the hiss go to noise reduction then choose get noise profile, the go back to noise reduction and chose remove noise. You may have to set the slider a little lower because when I do it I lose quality... hope this helps.
I think we need some more info: Are you on a desktop or a laptop? What other hardware are you using? Have you checked the cables? Just about anything can give you noise. However, if you are on a laptop, that sound you hear is most probably the hard drive spinning. I think that's possible with a desktop too, though I don't think I've ever had that problem. Give us all the info and somebody will troubleshoot for you.
Hi pitched hiss....that sounds hella the shit.
Is it only when you first plug in? it should be then stop usually.... is the mixer just 1/4 jacks running into the PC through the Mic in or do they run in through a desktop soundcard dock. The MIC in could be the cause depending on the laptop and the recording devices it uses. You may be able to upgrade your firmware on your soundcard and see if that fixes it but if not I wouldn't know what to say. It just sounds like feedback from the power supply of the mixer and equipment. As for taking out the hiss (the easy/hard way) however you look at it. You may be able to use a Notch filter or even try to unplug the cable and leave it just a tad unplugged during recording, unless your live then that is bad.....! Just take any HP and play with it. I am totally assuming your running a laptop though, so its probably the soundcard. you need to manually fix that.......
im using a pc. a dell.
"Have you checked the cables? "
im using a 4 track going rca to "little jack" into the mic input
as for checking the cables, i turned off the the four track all together and still got the hi-pitch while recording silence.(just hitting record/no signal)
im using soundforge to record.
would the four track being off take away the cable issue? or would the cables leading to an "off" 4 track still cause it?
on this file (guitar part) you can here the hiss.
before any guitar is heard the hiss is there. this might help....

please dont remix the guitar and make a gold record with it.

It sounds to me like it your Mic input / or the mixer. Probably the mixer power conflicting with the Mic input. and I am sorry But the So Cal guitar style will not make my remix stuff : ) I actually figured all of my stuff was done on this dell inspiron 8000. Here are tips though. Dell is a Kickass laptop for everything BUT sound. upgrade to ASIO 2 drivers. and Upgrade your firmware here http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&releaseid=R107735&SystemID=PDA_MP3_DJ_2&servicetag=&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=9420&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=3&catid=&impid=&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=139674
for your hardware they have a tool to help. and it sounds like the hiss is just power going into the Mic in. if you are new to recording that happens when you are not used to playing sets and all. P,S. Nice guitar.... My 4 channel does tha same thing. Any recording. what you pick up is probably static. . . . . you gotta figure you are recording. other than that I am sorry man. thats most of what I got to help you. Ps. Go DELL!
It might be your converter Half of the ones I've bought seemed to be just thrown together. Did you get it from radio shack?
by the way its a computer not a laptop. i guess it would be a desktop?
