inchadney did some nice recordings with several condenser capsules.
He did that because I asked for it.
I was looking for some extarnal mics for my Sony pcm D50 recorder with 5v internal phantom-power.
Maby this can be useful for other users;
The microphones tested:
1] sony pcm D50 internal mics
2] aevox ie stereo
3] soundman OKM studio classic
4] primo em172
5] shure wl183
the link to the sound test/review:

More tests from inchadney:

An other test wint D50 and Rode SVM mic:

Hope it helps for others...
Thank you for the compilation and thank you inchadney for recording them. Which ones have you picked and what wind protection do you plan to use ? Perhaps others can give examples of what they use as wind protection.

Hi Benboncan,
thanks for your reaction.
Yes, I hope others do equal tests. For good way of testing look at the tracks of inchadney.
What one i will pick out? I'm not sure yet.
My first conclusion is that the build-in mics of the Sony pcm d50 are very good. For this recorder I use a windscreen from 'TheWindcutter' it's called the 'StormChaser WindJacket'
Today there was a 5 bft wind and I did some fieldrecordings at the lake nearby. I will comment the windscreen.
My conclusion so far to that capsules in the test is that there in not one realy better than the build-in mics of the D50. I compare the selfnoise!!
For me the best on is the primo em172. Cheep and good quality.
An alternative is buy a set for €100,-- in the US;
BT 172-BI ( http://www.frogloggers.com ) The are made with the Primo em172.
The windprotection I have to find out. There are a lot of windjammers available. That not a big deal...
A more expensive option for a good external mic (not small and cheep) for mee is the Rode NT4.
Hope someone can do a test for me compare to the Sony pcm d50 internal mics like inchadney did? And than without a extra pre-amp?
I edit your camparation to this post:

a great comparation of the Rode NT-4, Sony ECM-MS907, Edirol CS-15
Now I have the Primo EM172 mics.
This is te first recording I did record.

For people with some money, here is a useful comparison of two more expensive mics;
Shoeps CMC64s ($1700) and the Rode NT4($500) both matched pare (xy90)

Because I am looking for a NT4 I think this test is very useful.
Sony PCM D50 and Rode NT4 a good combination
It's a good combination. The Sony PCM D50 recorder together with the Rode NT4 stereo microphone. I like the quality of the set. It gives really quiet recordings. But, there is something I like to say about it for them who are looking for something like this.
The NT4 is so nice for this recorder because it uses a 9v battery for the 48v phantom power. The PCM D50 doesn't have phantom power.
The only thing I have changed is the cable with the 3.5mm mini-jack that is plugged into the recorder. It brings down the output signal of the mic down 12dB and there is no use for that.
How to modify your cable yourself you can read here. https://pantherfile.uwm.edu/type/www/audio-reports/Rode_NT-4_Cable_Mod/NT-4_CableMod-index.htm
I think this is a good recording as a reference for this modified set: http://www.freesound.org/people/klankbeeld/sounds/169946/

Hope someone can use this information.
Schoeps are great indeed, I have pair with MK21 widecardiod capsules and they sound so right on so many sources. Great detail yet soft.
Old Sennheiser MKH are very afordable and great mics. MKH405 or MKH406. Most of them are powered with T-Power (Tonader), but it's very easy to add some XLR barrels for phantom>tonader conversion. What you get is very low-noise and neutral sounding microphone.
Can't comment on NT3/4, feature-wise it's a good choice (esp. the battery powering). Large diaphram RODEs sound kind of plasticy boring to me.
In a way sennheiser mkh or akg c414 are also in the boring category, but it's different class of boring . Classy-boring .
Cheap electrets are just "eeeeek". Passable time to time, but all of them have that typical harshness in the upper mids and sound flat overal... as built in mics in the recorders it's ok, but as an upgrade?
What about an MXL 990 condenser? It isn't expensive at all and has been shown to be a good mic for the price.
