hey there,
AFAIK, [and I live here in L.A.], UCLA extension is great. A former professor of mine teaches there in the audio dept. If you're into Pro Tools, that would be a definite place to go.
I've had former classmates go to Cal State Dominguez Hills; he said they're program was good. Of course, there is always the MI schools.
Ive been working in capacity as engineer and editor for about fourteen years, and I started at a community college audio program. If youre appetite is to get bad ass with the latest tech and get your foot in the door as quickly as possible, UCLA and perhaps MI could be the way to go. My purpose from the start was of a freelance engineer/producer, and took a less prolific route. Im doing decently now.
If you'd like to chat more about your plans, PM me, I'd be happy to lend a hand, for whatever its worth.
nice man, thanks a lot. I think Im gonna go with MI, Im a video editor, so I wanna work as a sound designer and audio engineer. One question, the program on MI is a technician, you gotta keep taking courses there to get to audio engineer right?
thanks a lot again man
Im afraid that I dont know MI's curriculum. As a video editor specifically, I didnt know you needed specific sound design knowledge to work in that field [other than knowing how to work EDL's, cue points and such]. You'd get quite a bit of knowledge with sound design studying in electronic music, as well as your own personal venture into sound and noise and all that. Sound design naturally comes with making music, and Im not aware of your experience with music in general. Perhaps you can take a course in noise making, along with video editing.
When you enroll in MI, let me know how it goes! Im in need of a beginner or intermediate video editor for my music projects...
Strangely,
FT
