I have a sound file here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/853f1d/n/1d_wav
In the sound file, there's two things on top of each other: something sounding vaguely like music, and a beep. There's also a short beep at the end, but I do NOT mean that last short beep. I mean the beeping sound that is there during around 80% of the time.
I'd like to keep only that beeping sound and remove the rest.
I tried with audacity low and high pass filter as well as noise removal. I could make it a "little bit" better that way, but in fact totally don't succeed.
Is there a way to keep only the beep, crystal clear, and have all the rest removed?
mmmh, very bad quality, there is so much low rumble and noise in this sound that it's very difficult to obtain a "crystal clear" sound out of it
you need a very good eq to cut down all Hz under 640 (maybe 900!! at least the beeping sound is totally in the high frequency range), than a good denoiser to clean all the unwanted sounds.
alternatively you can download thousands of beeps from the freesound archive!

Well yeah but this one here is so perfect for my purposes
Does anyone know maybe how a similar beep could be created, with what sort of software? (free software?)

Hello digifishmusic,
Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been around on the internet for a few days!
That does sound quite good actually, I mean, the background is effectively gone and that what I needed remains!
What tricks did you use to achieve this?
Thanks a lot!
BTW, I might use this sound in an indie computer game, if you're fine with that

It's OK with me ... it's your sound. I used spectral analysis to isolate the frequencies that were associated with the sound then simply EQ'd away anything that was not that sound.
You got lucky as the sound was spectrally separate from the background (largely).
Then I added some stereo effect to restore the natural ambience of it.

You can do it with the help of some popular tools but sound quality will be low. You should also talk to some experts about this.
