Hi I have a quick question how can I mixdown and master a track on audacity all my tracks come out scratchy because my friend keeps exporting my tracks without mixing down and mastering can someone help me please!!! :?:
When I play the song in like a car, it sounds messed up, I don't understand it. I talked to a music producer and he says I have to mix it down and then master it. But when I'm done recording my friend just exports it out, so I guess I have to mix it down and master it so it has a quality sound but how do you do it in audacity?
I'm sorry I can't upload the track but is there something I have to do before I export a track to make it sound top notch quality? And how can I do it?
Well mixing in Audacity isn't exactly intuitive, as that's not what it's made for. If you're clipping the audio, that would make it sound like garbage. That's the only thing I can really suggest without actually hearing anything. Basically, when you mix down you should be trying NOT to bring your mix up to 0dB. You should be leaving a couple dB of headroom at least. So when you mix, bring the loudest things up first. When I'm mixing rock, I like to bring the kick in first, then the snare, then the bass and the lead vocal. Then try to fit the rest of the music around those, using EQ mostly. Just make sure that you aren't seeing any red on Audacity's meters at the top. If you do that and there's still horrible sound, I don't think I can help you fix it, without hearing it at least. Good luck!
Hi there,
I'm no Audacity expert so to speak.. but what I think it could be is that maybe you (or your friend) is possibly exporting it at a low 'Bit Rate' perhaps?
The standard is about 128 with 44kH if that makes any sense.
Also it could be the format you're trying to export it as perhaps?
Try exporting as either an .MP3 or .WAV .
Hope this helps a little bit =]

I wouldn't go as low as 128 kbps mp3, standard nowadays is more like 192. 128 is pretty low. You're much better off with a .wav file, and then using an external converter to change it to mp3. But you're right, it could be a low bit rate.
