Don’t know if this has been mentioned on here before (it may well have been) but I built one of these this morning and blu-tacked it onto my zither, sticking the other end into my Edirol FA-66 audio interface.
Net result: beautiful, clear, noise-free zither sounds that enable me to slap a heavily feeding back Calf Vintage Delay or TAL Dub on the track and pretend I’m Laraaji.
(Aside: If you’ve never heard Day of Radiance, the ‘forgotten’ #3 of Eno’s Ambient series, go and listen to it. I first heard it in time to the sunrise glistening on the Caribbean Sea, and it was one of the most profound musical experiences of my life.)
Anywho, I’ll get something recorded tomorrow and upload a demo of this little device. For a fiver, it’s not too shabby.
When it’s moderated, see here: http://freesound.org/people/jamesabdulrahman/sounds/260953/
I will have to try recording something naturally bassier (and preferably away from the micro-vibrations of my computers) next, although I suspect I might need bigger transducers on the end of the cable.
