Soundedit 16 was, some would say, the best easy-to-use sound editing application for the Macintosh. The problem is that Macromedia tried to force-feed us Peak; an application that is no where near as easy to use, or as powerful in it's simplicity as Soundedit was.
Query:
Is anyone aware of an easy to use application for editing sounds, adding cue points (to trigger events in multimedia programmes such as Macromedia Director), creating loops, and saving out to multiple files formats for the Macintosh platform?
I must say, although I am sure that I am rolling out the big "welcome flamers" carpet here, that I despise Peak. Mainly because I find it overly complicated to use and it is chok-full of features I couldn't care less about, and missing most of what I need.
Essentially, if some company were to offer Soundedit 16 for OSX I (and a large number of other users, judging from all the posts on this topic I constantly see on various multimedia boards I frequent) would be in heaven.
Thanks!
Micah

Audacity is fantastic. It's available for OSX, Windows ... , LINUX, etc.
It is a VST-host etc. and it can code and decode mp3.
AND it is for free !!
Audacity is one of my workhorses (in combination with the software I develop..)

Thank you for the posts!
I am absolutely loving this programme. Perhaps my dislike of Peak is due to the fact that I am not a music expert, but come from a design/graphics background. Who knows.
Regardless, I love this programme. It actually reminds me a lot of Soundedit in it's functionality and GUI
One question:
I haven't seen anything in the programme to allow for the insertion of cue points. Am I just missing something, or are these not supported? I've only been playing with it for a few hours now so I may have missed something.
Thanks again!
I should probably mention that I also didn't find the capasity to export to .aiff or Quicktime in audacity (necessary for cue point support in). As I am not familiar with programming in Lisp or Nyquist, this may be something I could programme myself, and am unaware of.
As I never mind helping out, would it be possible to write a plug-in to support this, or am I barking up the wrong tree here?
Thanks again!

The file-format and quality etc. of exported files is set in the Preferences. On OSX: Audacity-menu, first item or command-comma. Available coices: aiff 16 Bit, 24 Bits etc., .wav and really loads of others.

I don't know, I don't need it, but it would be handy.
If I need something like it I use: project-menu: add label, but I don't need que-points for samplers or so.
Audactity mainly is a stereo-soundfile editor with nice features to bounce multi-track to stereo. The soundfile-editing features are great, if you add VST-plugins even better.
