:? I am a newbie and would like some tips on cutting and looping sounds. I have Audacity, Wavelab and Cubase 4 and want to import sounds into Kontakt 3 and Battery 3 to trigger them.
I will hopefully be able to upload loops for others to share,
Best wishes,

If you are looking to loop sounds to sustain them while a note is pressed, think of the sample as a sausage dog. it has a head (start/attack) and middle and a tail (end)
you need to find an area in the middle which can be looped while the note is pressed which sound like a continuous sample.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the tip but my ignorance is more basic than that. I don't even know hot to cut loops and trigger them in Kontakt 3.
Cheers

you want to build a library, what do you want to do? if you want to simply trigger use battery, or a slicex set to midi notes on slices, you can go in audacity and highlight and export selection as wav and in battery use the browser and load the files you want then save it as a kit. if you wanna loop something then make sure your Daw is timed right, or else it sounds like completely udder dog poo. What is your Daw or are you using audacity with the VST compatibility add on, yawn* sleepy.....
do you use a Midi controller? Like an oxygen 8?
Not sure what you are trying to do but if you want to make a loop that plays continuously without hearing the "join" try this:-
1. Load file into Audacity.
2. Use mouse to "select" portion of sound you think will do the job.
3. Hold shift key while you press play. The selected bit will play continuously.
4. Use mouse to nudge the start and end of your selection until the loop sounds right (or the transition from end to the new start can't be heard).
5. Stop play.
6. Go to "File - Export selection as.." - then choose your file name.
7. Job done.
Hope this helps.
Addendum to my suggestion above: If in audacity you keep "zooming in" (magnifying icon with + in it) so you can see the waveform at the beginning (or end) of your selection you can adjust the start and finish points to a single sample accuracy. Even a single sample shift can make the difference between click or no click.
I wrote this tutorial on how to loop sounds: http://www.fpsbanana.com/tuts/8862
(Note: you can loop sounds using goldwave cuepoints, but the above method is easier.)

This. I'd add that in your edit menue there should be an option to snap to zero-crossing. This is the point at which the wave form crosses the zero line. This means that, if the beginning and end points of your loop are on the zero line there should be no click. Lower frequency content is more difficult to loop because there are fewer zero-crossings. I think I read somewhere that the higher the sample rate of what you're trying to loop, the easier it will be to find zero-crossings.
Cross-fading can work too.
open your kontakt 3
in that you have a menu "audio"
import the sample and assign it to a key (which ever one you like)
and then further along the menu you have "loop key"
then "MIDI trigger" and select "loop" so the box is highlighted
this works for me as long as you have made sure that the audio is properly edited - like the guy before me said.
and then when you press the key you assigned it to it should play the sample over and over again
