I have read that in it's basis contact mics very simple and most of them are overpriced, so i bought cheap contact mic (which is surprisingly easy, it's easier to find cheap mic rather some expensive ones), tried it and it sounds rubbish.
I connected it to my Tascam 100MkIII which is (at least in theory) a decent recorder, through 6.35mm to 3.5mm adapter (plugged into mic) and wire with 3.5mm connectors on both sides.
So, any special techniques or settings? Or price actually matters?... or should i find cable with 6.35mm on both sides and plug it straight into XLR combo?
it could be that you are experiencing impedance mismatch, if your recordings are lacking low end, than that's the case for sure
Here's a good link from HISSandaROAR to check out:

You need a Hosa MIT-129 adapter for abround £25
It has a 1/4 inch jack input and XLR out. They can be found very easily on the net. It definitely improves the audio a lot.
I have also discovered that fixing the piezo mic to a much larger sheet of metal, I use 600mmx600mm, improves the sound dramatically.
