Hello everybody, This is my first post to this forum..
I'm planning on buying a USB mixer for my boyfriend for his birthday this month, but I really have no idea what to look for/what's good and bad. I've seen the Ion Icue, but I read a few bad reviews about it.. Also the Numark M1 looks nice too.. but like I said, I don't know enough about them to know what's good. My price range is $150 max, I realize with that I'm not able to get anything really fancy, but it will be his mixer to learn on. He has a macbook, so perhaps something compatible with garage band would be nice? He plays guitar in his band, so he would most likely be mixing his own music, as well as other songs. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you
i know its a bit over your price range but i recommend the numark total control. Its the mixer i learned off of and its great for a starter dj..
The issue though, is that with any usb mixer you are going to need a program to operate with it and most dj programs cost around 300-600$ (unless you get a pirated version) the program i reccomend is vdj for a starter virtual dj and traktor for once he gets decent.
if you dont want to get him the total control than i reccomend looking for another mixer.. when your looking for usb mixers try to get something with platters on the sides of the eq and faders (something to simulate turntables) because it gives you more control.
the mixers you were looking at (the m1 is the only one i saw, i didnt see the other) dont have any table controllability. let me explain this to you.. when you dj you need to be able to adjust the pitch of the track and you need to be able to set cues and you need to be able to start the track on cue.. all of these buttons are on a turntable control. Mixers like the M1 are good but they are only good if you have some usb tables to use with them..
ok im done ranting.. LOL
