I though it might be useful to try to compile a list of mics that can be used with portable recorders that don't provide phantom power. Ie. electret condencer mics that operate on plug-in power, mics that have their own internal battery etc...
I'll start with a couple:
Rode NT4
X/Y Stereo Condenser Microphone with 9V internal battery (price at Amazon: $419.99)
Audio-technica AT822
X/Y Stereo condenser operated with internal battery only (Amazon: $275.33)
Audio-technica AT825
Similar to AT822 but can be operated with phantom power in addition to internal battery (A: $349.00)
Audio-technica AT8022
X/Y Stereo Condencer Microphone, battery operatable (A: $399.00)
Sony ECM-MS907
MS Stereo Electret Condenser Microphone with internal battery (A: $66.23)
Rode NTG-2
Mono Condenser short shotgun microphone, P48 phantom power or 1.5V AA battery.

Thanks Benboncan. I'm surprised others haven't joined, I think this would be a very useful list, since it's very difficult to find about these mics by just Googling and many of us use recorders with a 3,5mm input...
Well I'll add a couple of ones myself:
Sennheiser K6 modular system, which consists of:
- the K6 powering module that can be powered either by its internal ‘AA’ size 1.5 V battery or by 12 - 48 V phantom power. Price at Amazon.com: $250.
- A mono condencer mic head. Available are long gun ME 67 ($634.39), short gun ME 66 ($219.95), super-cardioid ME 65 ($229), cardioid ME 64 ($168.53) and omni ME 62 ($170.77).
Sennheiser MKE 300 and MKE 400
Mono supercardioid mics powered by an internal battery (LR 44 and AAA respectively). Intended for video camera use. Price at Amazon: $173.33 and $199 respectively.
Sennheiser MKE 44-P
Permantly polarized condenser with two cardioid capsules in XY stereo. Phantom (12 - 48 V) or battery powered (1 x 1.5 V AA). Not sure about price.
Audio-technica ATR55
Mono cardioid condenser shotgun, powered by a 1.5V AA battery. (A: $43).
Audio-Technica ATR25
Stereo dual-cardioid condenser, powered with a single AA battery. (A: $31.8
Audio Technica PRO 24
X-Y Stereo Condenser Microphone, powered by plug-in power or a 1.5V LR44 battery. (A: $60.16)
Panasonic WM61 DIY microphone
An omni stereo condencer pair, using the WM61 capsule. Self-assembled, parts cost about 30-40$.
There must be much more. Can contact/piezo mics be used with a portable device with a 3,5mm mic in giving plug-in power? I'd really like to have a mobile stereo piezo pair to use with my LS-10...
Edirol CS-15
XY Stereo cardioid, plug-in or battery powered.
http://www.edirol.net/products/en/CS-15/
less than $4 ... http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=4565
(There are typos in the spec, they've missed out the decimal points: "15 volts" should be 1.5Volts similarly "45volts" should be 4.5 Volts)
These ~1$ piezo transducers can also be used as contact microphones, (although IIRC they are overly sensitive to high frequencies).
I have uploaded a file that compares the Rode NT-4, Sony ECM-MS907 and the Edirol CS-15 if anyone is interested. It is possible to evaluate the self noise and sensitivity from the file.

Sony ECM-DS70P

Hello,
I have one Jensen transformer xlr to rca balanced to unbalanced stereo transformer, I am asking if it can be put between the k6 sennheiser with shotgun microphone sennheiser me 67 and the edirol r09 line input? Of corse with one rca to 3,5mm jack cable. I think that the k6 module is mono so if I wont stereo it must have two k6 and two micros. In this moment the transformer is between one apogee mini mp balanced line outputs and the edirol r 09 line input, and it works very well as it have inproved the simple cable connection between two xlr and one stereo 3,5mm jack.
Thank you,
Freitas
Sound Professionals SP-TFB-2 binaural microphones
3.5mm jack.
I use this in conjunction with my Edirol R-09HR. I love this setup!
Beyerdynamic MCE 82
X/Y Stereo Condenser Microphone phantom or battery powered.
Rode M3
(You didn't stipulate Stereo). Mic has an internal 9v battery.
Cheers

Shure VP88 Cardioid Condenser Mid-Side Wired Stereo Microphone with Internal Matrix.
Phantom or 6v camera battery.

This microphone is a classic, and it has stood the test of time and is widely-used. It has the ability to use both a 9 V battery and external phantom power. It also has the option to change the polar pattern of the microphone which allow it to be used in less than ideal environments.
