.syx is not for a specific VST.
It should be some sort of SysEx file.
SysEx = System Exclusive messages...they're a type of MIDI message used (usually) to deal with patch parameter data.
For example, a SysEx dump from one synth to another of the same synth would transfer info about the patches from the one performing the dump. You can often do this from a synth to a computer too, in order to edit patches/parameters on a computer program.
SO...I'm guessing that parameters on a VST can also be saved as SysEx data, than loaded into a different VST that supports SysEx, so that the parameter data can be shared between them (without a weird propietary extension required for each VST preset type!).
Does that make any sense?
