Audacity tells me to import these freesound wav files as raw data. It shows a default set of settings just before I import. When I do import, the file ends up being squeezed down to less than a second of sound. I cannot figure out what should be the settings I need to import it at the timing and quality I heard on the freesound site.

How about right clicking the file and selecting "Open With".
