Shotgun mic directly into an Edirol R-09HR

Are there any affordable shotgun mics that I can plug directly into my Edirol? I don't want to use additional preamps etc. My intended usage is recordings of birds.

I plug the Rode NTG-2 directly in, as it is powered by a battery.

The thing is, as I've discovered the hard way, the R-09 produces a lot of hiss, its preamps are notoriously bad, if you want to record very delicate sounds with professional results, you'll need to buy a preamp, this company make ones that run off the 'plug in power' of the R-09
