I just need something that I can get really good quality field recording with, and this one seemed to be the best value in terms of price and quality. I was wondering if any of you had used it, and what you thought about it, would you recommend it, is there a better recorder in that price range, etc.

Alright, did I do something wrong? I feel as if I perhaps broke some rule and am getting ignored for it, although I'm not sure what that might be. Whatever it is, if anyone could tell me I would appreciate it.

I'm sure you did nothing wrong. Lots of posts don't get replies if people don't have the experience to add a useful comment. For instance, (probably like the other 160+ people who have read this post), I've not heard of the recorder you mention. The sound equipment I have is about twenty years old or more, so I can't help, but I am replying so that you don't feel ignored.

I'm sure the lack of response is nothing personal toward you.

What I can say is that any community is a two way thing. It's by no means required, or even expected, but if you can join in the freesound community with comments, replies or by uploading some sounds you have recorded or created you will find plenty of friendly people here. I know I did. If you haven't created anything you want to upload that's fine, in my opinion anyway.

Alright, thanks. Whew, I just knew I had broken some rule or something. And the thing is, is that I do have some cool sound effects, but they all have a kind of distinctive lo-fi feel to them, and I'm not sure how that's embraced here.

I always recommend the zoom h2 for that price range.

I have not personally tried that yamaha recorder., but the zoom seems to superior (I had one and loved it).

Pros of the Zoom-

Less expensive.
No memory limit, it takes SD cards, so you are not stuck with a 2gb limit (it you are recording at professional bit depths and sample rates, 2gb will get filled up quickly).
More microphone patterns (even surround)
More bit depths and sampel rate recording options (you are limitied to max 16bit and max 44.1 from what I read)

Pros of the Yamaha-

It is smaller.

To me, the Yamaha unit seems more of a beefed up dictation device rather than a real sound recording device.

Nope, but I would include a hyperlink next time instead of just the text to the URL. People are lazy, as am I. Its a pain to have to highlight the text, copy it and paste it into my browser url (it takes a whole 5 seconds longer!).
