Hi I'm new to here, but not entirely new to here. I've been a dj/producer for roughly five years now, I use traktor/reason4+additional hardware to produce the sound that seduces me so. I'm looking at buying a new recorder for sampling random things to use to produce music. I've always wanted to get into sampling organic things and making my OWN sound. I'm really into ambient noise and atmospheric goodness, deep textures and seductive sound. I'll be doing alot of field recordings, low noise is a must, and a good capture of lowlevel ambient things. I've heard Luftrum's recordings on there ZoomH2, and thats one of the main reasons I'd like a zoomh2 as I know whats its capable of already. But by looking at the tascam I'm not sure now, I like the overdub and the effects of the tascam but I'm not really sure if I need them, as I will be doing alot of post processing via Audition. What I guess it comes down to is the mic's and which one has the best mic, for picking up what I'm putting down. Has anyone used either of these? The zoomh2 on amazon is 130$, while the tascam DR-1 is 179$.
I found that calling up and speaking with the folks at sweetwater really helped. What I learned from the guy I spoke with was that the essential thing to consider when purchasing a flash recorder is the pre-amp. He also said that most of the microphones are fairly similar. I really like the Tascam DR-07 it has really worked for me. One thing, and I don't know if this was an intentional design, but it fits perfectly inside of an old shock mount I had sitting around. The price was right and it has been a work horse.
