Hi
I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to make/synthesize the sound of the alien message from 'Contact'. I don't need/want a sample, I want to recreate my own and I was just having some trouble.
The closest I've gotten is in Fl Studio and a plugin called basic_64 (fairly good C64 sound synth). I used a single oscillator and a square LFO that decreases pitch as quickly as possibly.

So has anyone got an tips for making this sound? Has anyone done it/gotten close? I'd love to hear!

Thanks for the tip, I'll have a play around with the heartbeat and see what I can do, however I'm no musical genius and the sound in the movie sounds very complicated/made up of several different sounds.

The deep woosh bit, using Benboncan's heart, is quite similar to the movie sound.

Needs submarine sonar-ping type sounds to be more like the movie.

Also from what I can hear, it just sounds like (basically) you've slowed the samples down?

Sorry I can't upload anything now, but wait till the weekend and I'll get to work and see if I can take your ideas and make something even closely resemble the sound.

Sounds like there are also some machine screeching sounds in there. I think an old door hinge or something could produce a sound similar to this, or any other old rusty mechanism where metal grinds on metal...
