hello, new here and got a question regarding the sliding scratch. no matter what approach i take to playing, its always there. here is the signal's path to the amp;
rockmaster tubed preamp-aphex 103a aural exciter-alesis 3630 compressor/limiter/gate-amp&cab.
we have come to the conclusion that its part of the sound. is there a way to snuff the scratch?
thanks in advance!
using a Squier Strat, i do believe its hollow(not as heavy as my Lotus), distorted and no other fx. the strat has an emh hz-h4 and the strings are 1/8" above the hz. it also has a licensed Floyd speed loader.
I see. Well, there are quite a few ways to get around the problem.
- You may reconsider the way you play, move your left hand faster, don't touch the strings when in transition etc.
- Use flatwound strings. They produce less scratches and unwanted noises but also have a softer sound.
- Crank up your dist or gain, reduce the volume on your guitar and / or boost your bass. Mind, though, that this produces a rather heavy, slightly muddy sound. It may not be the sound you are looking for.
By the way, I actually like those little noises. It gives an extra live feel.
Good luck!
just another suggestion for any body else
try pulling out the compressor see if makes a diffrence
compressor lesson 101
If you don't completly understand what a copressor does, don't use one!
the smallest tweek of a knob can completly change the sound and little noises like scratches can become the "more sound"
but always play!!!! have fun
Yeah bro I hear you, been playin for almost 2 decades... You can edit the little bastards out afterwards on your DAW software... But sadly, the fact is good guitarists jump from chord to chord, not slide. Even top guitarists have those slide sounds goin on though... Listen to the intro of Justice For All by Metallica for example. Practice practice...
